Bishop Bill's Bulletin
Dear Members of the Diocesan Family
Holy Week and Easter:
Pray you had a blessed Holy Week and Easter. Easter is not a day, but a season of fifty days. Easter concludes with Pentecost, being 4th June this year.
I pray that during these fifty days we will grow into what it means to be a disciple of the Risen Lord.
As an aside, during the Easter Season there is no Old Testament reading except for the Psalm. The first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles. We introduce the Acts reading as "A reading from the Acts of the Apostles" or "The first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles”.
The Diocesan Registrar:
It was announced late last week that The Reverend Greg Lynham will be the next District Court Judge in Queensland, as from this Wednesday. We congratulate Greg on his appointment and assure him of our prayers. Please see the attached Press Release.
I am in the process of appointing a new Registrar and will keep the Diocesan Family informed.
The Townsville Hospital Chaplaincy:
As approvals are still to be finalised, I will outline the arrangements in my next Bulletin.
A special information session is being held for those who are responsible for Blue Cards. At this stage the only scheduled session is in Townsville on Tuesday 2 May at 6.30pm. Please see the attached information. Would you kindly advise if your parish will send your Blue Card representative, so that we can confirm numbers to the organizers.
Once we receive information regarding sessions in other centres we will advise.
The Dean commences Long Service Leave this week. We assure The Dean and Penny of our prayers as they relax and refresh.
The Reverend Allan Shephard will be the locum at the Cathedral. We welcome Allan to the Diocese and assure him of our prayers.
The Reverend Eric Pitt is in hospital and is likely to undergo surgery. We assure Deacon Eric and Jan of our love and prayers at this uncertain time.
I mentioned in my sermon at Holy Trinity Mackay on Easter 2, it is important that we ‘pray without ceasing' for the peace of the world. The world is extremely fragile at this time. Please keep praying for the world leaders as they make decisions concerning the future of our world.
As a nation, we celebrate ANZAC day this week. It is important we continue to pray for our troops, especially those serving our nation overseas. We not only pray for their safety, but for their families and loved ones.
Canon 2 & 5
This week the Canon Review Committee will be meeting to finalise these two Canons, the Parish Canon and the Licensing Canon.
At various gatherings lately, I have encouraged people to read the Canons closely and make any comments to the Committee via the Diocese.
These Canons will determine how we undertake our ministry in the future. So, it is important that we work together so that we have a solid framework in which to undertake our ministry here in North Queensland.
I thank the Canon Review Committee for all their work and effort. There have been many hours of work gone into these two draft Canons.
