Bishop Bill's Bulletin
Dear Members of the Diocesan Family,
For your prayers:
We give thanks to God for the rain that has fallen in recent days. However, there are areas out West that are still waiting for seasonable rain. Please keep praying.
For The Reverend Keith and Marjorie Dodds. Marjorie’s health continues to deteriorate but Marjorie is a lady of great faith and is well prepared to meet her Lord.
Please pray for the nation of PNG, our near neighbours following the earthquake on Monday. From the Anglican News Service:
“A large earthquake in Papua New Guinea’s Enga province has left more than 30 people dead and over 300 injured, according to reports from the region. The main 7.5 magnitude tremor struck 56 miles (90 km) south of Porgera; and there have been two strong aftershocks. Reports say that 18 people were killed in Kutubu and Bosave, while 13 died in Mendi, the capital of the Southern Highlands. The quake has caused landslides and sinkholes in the region, and phone lines have been cut.”
The Torres Straits:
Over the weekend the Primate, Archdeacon and I were on the Torres Strait. I am pleased to report that it was a time of blessing and progress in terms of ministry in the region.
You may recall that three Synods ago, the Late Bishop Mabo and I launched the Yumplatok Bible, the Torres Strait Creole Bible. I am pleased to report that the Bible has been taken to Darnley Island, the Island where the London Missionary Society brought the Gospel to the Torres Straits. The Bible is now moving out through the Islands of the Straits, in the spirit of bringing the Light of Christ to the people of the Torres Strait.
Changes in the Marriage Act:
Since the changes in the Marriage Act, paragraph 50 (i) (b) Marriage Act 1961 (cth), we are now required to use the new Notice of Intended Marriage form. Under the section on ‘Description of party’ and ‘Sex’ there are now three classifications.
There is a new Certificate of Marriage (with the Declaration) which is also required to be used as from now. There are three classifications under the “Description of party”.
Marriage celebrants are required to provide those seeking marriage the leaflet, “Happily Ever.......Before and After - Information for couples planning to marry”. The new leaflet is a folded A4 whereas the previous forms were in three sections.
To all Marriage Celebrants I ask you to read carefully and familiarize yourself with the attached forms.
All these can be downloaded from the web. If you do not have web facilities please contact my PA Julie and she will happily forward the forms requested.

Queensland Provincial Clergy Conference – Sea World:
The Conference dates are 30 July to 2 August 2018, at the Gold Coast. Please see the attached flyer for details.
It is my prayer that there will be at least twenty clergy from North Queensland who will attend this conference. It is good to share and hear from clergy in other areas how they are addressing ministry issues.
The Reverend Canon Dway Goon Chew is on the planning committee and I thank Dway for his ministry.
NQ Clergy and Lay Ministers Conference – 5-8 June:
It is proposed to hold the conference from Tuesday 5 to the morning of Friday 8 June (prior to Synod) here in Townsville. Please set the dates aside. More details will be provided later.
Certificate of Appreciation:
Last week I presented Bishop George Tung Yep with a Certificate of Appreciation. This honours Bishop George’s ministry and allows him to conduct worship from time to time with permission.
Please pray for Bishop George and Marion as they give thanks to God for the blessing of each day.
I pray your Lenten disciplines are strengthening you in your walk with Christ.
Wishing you every blessing.
Yours in Christ
The Right Reverend William (Bill) Ray
Bishop of North Queensland
